Everybody needs a break once in awhile but we don’t always have a lot of time and money to take that long vacation.
Our staff at Ticket Snipers can relate to needing some down-time so we wanted to provide you with 8 Getaways near the Los Angeles area that won’t take up a lot of your time – and options to take a break without breaking the bank.
Catalina Island
One of the most popular getaway spots near Los Angeles is Catalina Island. It’s only 48 miles from L.A. and offers an island getaway without having to take a cruise ship or plane to get there. You’ll take a ferry ride to get to the island (about a one-hour ride) and enjoy activities of all price ranges from zip lining, scuba diving, kayaking, and camping, to a beautiful beach, fantastic restaurants and Descanso Beach Club.
Santa Barbara
A second great place to visit is just 95 miles from Los Angeles, in beautiful Santa Barbara, where you can visit the Santa Barbara Museum of Art or visit the famous beaches. The Channel Islands are another favorite where you can kayak and explore some caves. The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is another great stop with over 65 acres of California floral varieties and scenic views.
Carlsbad – Legoland
Also known as Carlsbad, California, the home of LEGOLAND, is about 87 miles from L.A. At the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, you’ll have the opportunity to learn all about gems…and diamonds! There’s also the Flower Fields where you can take in all the beauty and scents of a variety of roses, petunias and an array of many other flowers.
The Feline Conservation Center
Guess what’s in Rosamond, California? The Feline Conservation Center! We know, this may sound a little eclectic to some, but it’s not as odd as you might think. The Feline Conservation Center has a wide variety of wild cat species and dedicates themselves to the preservation and protection of these wild cats, and this desert zoo is located only 83 miles from Los Angeles.
Newport Beach
Looking for some “on-land” fun and relaxation instead of getting in the water? Our fifth location, Newport Beach, offers bikes, beach toys, walks on the beach or pier, or you can head over to Balboa Island for some whale watching- and it’s just 43 miles away from L.A.
Wine Tasting
We know there’s some wine tasters reading this blog, and it would be highly remiss of us to leave out California wine-tasting in a place like Temecula. Many of the various wineries in this area offer hotel accommodations if you feel like staying longer. Of course, there are beautiful views of the vineyards, wine tasting galore and even hot air balloon rides. Cheers!
Angeles National Forest
Need an escape from the city? Check out our seventh location in Angeles National Forest at Millard Campground. There’s plenty of exercise to be had with hiking, enjoy a picnic, the beautiful surroundings, an overnight stay outdoors in a tent, and some peace and quiet!
So Much To Do In Malibu!
Our eighth and final recommendation – who can forget Malibu? Located just 30 miles from Los Angeles, it offers fantastic, curving and scenic roads through Pacific Coast Highway through mountains and canyons, horseback riding, vineyards with wine tasting, camping, the famous Malibu Beach and so much more. Here’s a National Geographic article on just how amazing and immense the Pacific Coast Highway is.What are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy some nearby fun, adventure and relaxation that’s only a short distance away from L.A., and remember to drive safe!
